The Many Faces of a Financial Coach – Michelle Boss

The purpose of The Many Faces of a Financial Coach blog series is to inspire up-and-coming and veteran coaches alike. Our mission is to show the beautiful uniqueness to coaches overall while telling their story, describing their niche and allowing them to offer tips & advice to other coaches. Profiles of coaches are not necessarily participants or graduates of the Financial Coach Academy training program (although some are). It’s purely for inspirational purposes only.

When did you start your Financial Coaching business?

July 2017

Tell us about your journey to becoming a financial coach.

I have a numbers, psychology, consultative sales and alternative investments background. After I quit corporate, I  got my NFEC Financial Education Instructor Certification and starting marketing myself as a financial coach and educator.

Why did you become a financial coach?

I saw that I could help so many people – similar to my friends and family – struggling with their personal finances. I believe there is a large lack in personal finance education in our public education system,  and a general lack of much-needed financial fiduciary services for help with the behavioral aspect of personal money management.

Who is your ideal client? What is the main problem you help your clients solve?

Entrepreneurs, single women or moms in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s. Almost everyone I’ve talked to has a personal finance issue that can be solved with a budget and accountability.

What is a strategy, tip or piece of advice you give your clients often?

Just start. Step by step is the only way to tackle something that seems scary or overwhelming.

What is a strategy, tip or piece of advice you could give to other financial coaches?

It takes a while to build trust and relationships for referrals and client acquisition. Start coaching as a side gig or have enough savings if this is something you will be dependent on for income.

What is one thing you learned the hard way when it comes to being a financial coach?

Join a good community for support and have an accountability partner.
